Thanks

  • MandaLars (Lars, megagott) – SOUNDMASCHINE, the AOT compile line that makes firmwares fast on the VIBE, and the Launchpad 8 × 8 grid.
  • Andrew GG – S1VAVE, testing MIDI and SysEx on Windows, and finding why an Editor page stood there empty here.
  • Steven Dressler – testing the plugin in Logic Pro: presets and projects now keep their sound, FM-1 firmwares included.

Save your controller profile

What you just set up, as a profile – it maps your controller from now on, in every project.

Others with the same controller would love it: Controller ▾ → Share yours … sends it to us – we check it and put it into the next update for everyone.

How to play VIBE

On the device

  • PLAY / STOP start the beat, REC records pads and keys into the pattern.
  • Pads play drums – centre = loud, edge = soft.
  • Keys play the synth, swiping across works too.
  • Encoders: drag or scroll. A / B and DATA do what the display's left column says. Values show in the display.
  • F1–F6 do what the display shows above them.
  • MENU shows every encoder, key and pad of the open page in the display – hold SHIFT for the second layer.
  • Cheat sheet (top bar): how the running firmware is played, right of the device, toggles on and off.
  • OberVave 2.0 (default): four tracks A–D. F1 MIXER (again: LEVEL → PAN → SENDS), F2 TRACKS, F3/F4 sound, F5 SAVE, F6 GLOBAL, SHIFT+F6 UNDO. Colour keys FX ENV LFO ARP EDIT SEQ; SEQ again = TRACKS → STEPS → TRACK. Pad row 1 = start/stop a track on the bar, row 2 = select a track; in MIXER rows 2–3 mute (SHIFT+pad = solo). A = track, B = sound, DATA = bar (STEPS) or next pattern (MIXER / TRACKS). Hold REC 1 s or SHIFT+REC clears the selected track.
  • VIBE GROOVE 1.5 (groovebox): eight tracks A–H in two banks (tap SHIFT = A–D / E–H), each DRUMS or SYNTH with any kit or sound. Played like OberVave – same F keys, colour keys, pads and encoders.
  • OberVave 3 (beta) and GROOVE: the colour keys run as the signal goes – SOUND · ENV · LFO · ARP · FX · SEQ (OberVave 2.0 still FX ENV LFO ARP EDIT SEQ).
  • Holding with the mouse: in OberVave first SHIFT+F5 (HOLD), then a colour key – it stays held until you click it again.

Computer keyboard

  • ZXC… white keys, SDG… black keys (on a German layout Y instead of Z)
  • 1–8, Q–I pads 1–16
  • Space play/stop · O REC · Tab HOME
  • ←→ octave · Shift SHIFT · Esc back

Controllers (USB MIDI, Chrome/Edge)

  • Launchpad Mini MK3: top left 4×4 = pads, top right = PLAY/STOP/REC/HOME and the six keys, bottom two octaves of keys, lights as on the device.
  • MPK mini IV / MK3 (any preset, DAW too): K1–K4 = encoders 1–4, K5 = DATA, K6 = volume, K7 = A, K8 = B; pads = pads 1–8, bank B = 9–16; keys, pitch/mod wheel and sustain pedal go to the firmware. Buttons (only in the DAW preset): − / + step through the colour keys, MIXER, TRACKS, GLOBAL and MENU; TAP TEMPO = the chosen one again (pages through its area); Stop/Play = PLAY, Loop = STOP, Record = REC, Undo = HOME, Overdub = ENTER, SHIFT = SHIFT, push encoder = DATA. Black keys wrong? The MPK's Scales mode is on (SHIFT+pad 7 turns it off). Map it differently: Setup.
  • Any controller: Controller ▾ → Set up a new one … walks you through it and keeps the result as a controller profile – the same file works on the VIBE, in the plugin and here. In the VIBE FM VST the controller plays into the DAW track and the plugin maps it, window open or closed. An Akai MPK mini: its PLUGIN preset (its DAW preset steers the DAW). Share yours … sends it to us for everyone. With FOCUS, one knob with a push (DATA + ENTER) and HOME reach everything.
  • MIDI channel (top bar): "all" passes every channel to the firmware; channel 1–16 only that one. Pads on channel 10 and the controller mappings (MPK, Launchpad, learned) always apply.
  • BeatStep Pro & co.: drum pads (channel 10) = pads; knobs with Learn: tap a VIBE control, move one on the controller.

Rear panel (below the device)

  • IN 1 / IN 2: channels 1 and 2 of your interface. LINE / MIC / HI-Z is set by the firmware.
  • PEDAL: footswitch (P or MIDI CC64) or expression (knob or CC11).
  • CV OUT / GATE OUT show what the firmware sends. CV IN: knob −5…+5 V. CLK IN: tap or MIDI clock.

Firmware

  • Choose it in the top bar, HOME + pad 16, or drop your own .wasm onto the device.

This runs the real firmware (C → WebAssembly) on the VIBE SDK – the same code goes onto the device.
